Winbond reports U$ 11 Million losses

Winbond Electronics suffered a net operating loss of NT$330 million (US$11.1 million) for the third quarter of 2012, 30.23% less than that of NT$473 million posted in the preceding quarter.

Winbond's third-quarter revenues of NT$6.579 billion and gross margin 10.55% slipped 3.14% and rose 6.09pp on quarter, while the corresponding net loss of NT$325 million was almost the same as in the second quarter.

Specialty DRAM accounted for 44% of third-quarter revenues, NOR flash 43% and mobile RAM 13%, Windbond indicated.

Winbond's 12-inch fab currently has a monthly foundry capacity of 18,000 wafers for specialty DRAM, including 5,000 units based on 46nm technology, and that of 16,000 wafers for NOR flash, including 1,000 46nm-based units and 6,000 58nm-based units. The company has set aside a capex budget of NT$2.6 billion for 2012.
